This gemstone is named “aquamarine” , derived from the Latin word for seawater. The aquamarine has a deep blue color which reminds us of the sea and watercolors ranging from pale blue to blue-green or teal. Some gemstones are heated to high temperatures to enhance the color and/or clarity of a stone. Aquamarines are no exception. They are often heat-treated to change a blue-green or teal colored stone to a pure blue, a permanent color change. To the untrained eye, blue aquamarine is sometimes mistaken for Blue Topaz.

Caring for your Aquamarine
The best way to clean your aquamarine gem is with mild liquid soap and warm tepid water using a soft bristled tooth-brush. Rinse well to avoid any residual soap. Avoid enzyme cleaners and detergents It is also not advisable to clean aquamarine in an ultrasonic tank. 
Avoid sudden temperature changes. The reason you would clean your gems is to clean up the build up of dust, oils and hand creams. Washing your hands with mild soap while wearing your rings helps. Take your rings off in the shower or heavy cleaning or gardening.
